Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has departed to the United States, on the invitation of Secretary of State of the United States of America, His Excellency Michael Richard Pompeo.

During this visit, Minister Shahid will be meeting with Secretary Pompeo and senior officials of the United States Government in Washington DC, which includes the US Department of State, National Security Council, Office of the US Trade Representative, USAID and Overseas Private Investment Corporation(OPIC). Minister Shahid will explore possibilities of further strengthening the close bilateral ties between the Maldives and the United States.

Following Minister Shahid’s visit to the United States, he will travel to Geneva from 25th to 27th February to attend the High Level Segment of the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. Afterwards, Minister Shahid will travel to Abu Dhabi to attend the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. 

Minister Shahid is accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
