Foreign Minister Shahid meets with his Counterpart Federal Foreign Minister of Germany

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Shahid met with His Excellency Mr. Heiko Maas, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany today at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the fifth Berlin Energy Dialogue. During the meeting, Federal Foreign Minister Maas thanked Minister Shahid for accepting his invitation to attend the conference and conveyed his delight at the smooth transition of power last year following the Presidential elections and the subsequent consolidation of democracy by new Government of President Solih.

He also congratulated the Minister on the successful Parliamentary elections that was recently held. Minister Shahid thanked the German Government and the European Union for the strong support extended to the people of Maldives that had contributed significantly towards achieving a smooth transition in the Maldives.

The two Ministers discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, including the issue of setting up of a permanent office in the Maldives for Maldivians to apply for Schengen visas. Minister Shahid was accompanied by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Latheef, Ambassador of Maldives to Germany, Mr. Mohamed Jinah, Deputy Ambassador and Ms. Shiruzimath Sameer, Minister Counsellor.

Minister Shahid is currently visiting Germany to attend the Fifth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue. At the conference he participated at the Panel discussion on “Geopolitics in the Age of renewable energy”.
