Contracts signed for the water supply and sewerage system project in 34 islands, financed under the $800 million Dollar Credit Line Agreement

The contracts for the development of water supply and sewerage systems in 34 islands were signed today. These projects are financed under the $800 million Dollar Credit Line Agreement signed between the Government of Maldives, and Export-Import Bank of India in March 2019, for the purpose of financing development projects in the Maldives.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of National Panning Housing and Infrastructure Mr. Mohamed Aslam, Secretary Multilateral Dr. Hala Hameed, Deputy High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Rohit Rathish, and other officials from the Government, and the High Commission of India in Male’.

Speaking at the event, Secretary, Multilateral Dr. Hala Hameed highlighted that the signing of the contract would greatly improve the quality of lives of Maldivians across the country, and in realisation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s commitment to provide access to safe water and proper sanitation in all inhabited islands of the Maldives.

Secretary, Multilateral further expressed gratitude to the Government and people of India for their effort and commitment in contributing to the socioeconomic development of the Maldives.

This is the second project to be signed under this Line of Credit, with several other key infrastructure projects to be signed in the near future.
