Contract signed for construction of Emergency Medical Services unit in B. Dharavandhoo Hospital

The contract signing ceremony for the construction of Emergency Medical Services unit at Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo Hospital was held today at the Ministry of Health. This project is supported with the financial support of the Indian Government. The contract was awarded to LF construction.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudir, and other officials from the Government, and the High Commission of India in Male’.
A grant of 7.5 million rufiyaa from the Government of India was allocated to the Ministry of Health to establish Emergency Medical Services in Baa Atoll Dharavandhoo, to broaden the reach of emergency medical attention in time-critical situations.
Speaking at the event, Foreign Secretary highlighted that the signing of the Emergency Medical Services in B. Dharavandhoo greatly improves access to resourceful and affordable healthcare facilities capable of providing prompt treatment of life-threatening situations. In addition, Foreign Secretary reflected that the availability of these medical facilities at the Government’s disposal increases the resilience in responding to disaster response plans at both the local, regional and national levels.
The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India during the visit of the Minister of External Affairs of India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact.
