State Minister Khaleel participates in the Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Summit for Democracy 2023

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel participated today in the Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Summit for Democracy 2023, convened by the Government of the Republic of Korea, under the theme of Challenges and Progress in Addressing Corruption.
During this meeting, State Minister Khaleel delivered the country statement and reiterated Maldives’ unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption. State Minister Khaleel stressed how corruption erodes public trust, undermines the rule of law, and hinders economic progress and emphasized on the need for international cooperation in combatting corruption.
In his statement, State Minister Khaleel also reflected on the Government’s multi-faceted efforts towards tackling corruption – by strengthening the legal and institutional frameworks, promoting transparency, and encouraging public participation within the Maldives and by building partnerships with the international community to share best practices and lessons learned.
Hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Park Jin, the meeting was also attended by Foreign Ministers from the region. State Minister Khaleel was accompanied by Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adam Hamid.
The Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting is part of the Second Summit for Democracy and it provided an opportunity for representatives from governments, international organizations, civil society and the private sector for dialogue and discussions on advancing the shared vision of addressing corruption in the region to create a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
