Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with Ed Gresser, Assistant US Trade Representative for Trade Policy and Economics

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid met with Ed Gresser, Assistant US Trade Representative for Trade and Policy this afternoon.
At the meeting held at the US Trade Representative’s office, both Minister Shahid and Mr. Gresser discussed ways to expand trade cooperation between the Maldives and the US, including ways to further attract foreign direct investment from the US and increase access of Maldives Fisheries exports to the US markets.
Mr. Gresser also informed that the US Government will resume discussions in May this year with the Maldives under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) signed between the two countries in 2009. This agreement aims to expand trade and investment between the two countries, reduce trade barriers, protect Intellectual Property Rights and worker’s rights
Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States of America, Ali Naseer Mohamed, and Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
